Max Auguste

Club Director / Head Coach


Max Auguste is the Club director of Fundamental Volleyball Club. He is an exemplary teacher of the game and has been involved in volleyball as a player and coach for over 20 years. Max is a former player and captain of the St. Lucia National Team and was named National Volleyball Player of the year in 1995. He played on an athletic scholarship for the Queens College “Knights,” where he received numerous awards including, Most Valuable Player, Scholar athlete and Most Outstanding Senior.

Before starting his own volleyball program Max coached at St. John’s University for two seasons as Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator. Prior to his achievements at the Big East Conference, Max coached at the Fashion Institute of Technology and led the “Lady Tigers” to the 2011 NJCAA Region XV Championship, earning them a selection to the National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota. He was awarded the 2011 NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year and completed his 7 year stint at FIT with a 100-42 record.

In his coaching debut in 1994, Max led his former high school, St. Mary’s College to a championship title at the Inter-Secondary School Volleyball Championships. His championship team comprised players such as Jason Octave, an outstanding middle hitter who went on to compete on athletic scholarship for the Queens College Knights (2002-2005) and moved on to play professionally in leagues in Germany and Puerto Rico. Max joined the Saint Lucia Women’s National Team coaching staff as Assistant Coach in 1997.

Max has served as volleyball instructor and director at multiple successful clinics and related programs in the New York metro area and in his country of St. Lucia. He has helped enhance numerous club programs in a technical capacity on Long Island in his efforts to help promote and improve the level of competition in our region. Known as the “Jack of All Skills” Max played multiple positions throughout his career and can proficiently demonstrate each skill to players at all levels.

Max earned two degrees while at Queens College – a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Social Science. Max is also a CAP I and Beach IMPACT certified USA Volleyball Instructor.
