Max established Fundamental Private Volleyball Training LLC as the pioneering source for all players in the New York area to come train to become fundamentally skilled for high school, club, college and professional athletic excellence. He is also fully committed to using the sport of volleyball as a disciplinary tool to foster positive choices among our youth while engaging other community programs in creative ways to achieve this mission.
Max is a former player and captain of the Saint Lucia National Team and was named National Volleyball Player of the Year in 1995. At the collegiate level, Max played multiple positions on an athletic scholarship for the Queens College Knights’ where he achieved numerous awards including Freshman of the Year, Scholar Athlete, Most Valuable Player and Most Outstanding Senior. He was also named to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) All-East second team in 2001. Max is a former outside hitter for Creole Volleyball Club which participates in numerous local, regional and national adult tournaments including the U.S. Open Volleyball Championships.
Before deciding to establish his own volleyball skills training program Max coached at St. John’s University for two seasons as Assistant Volleyball Coach and Video Coordinator. Prior to his achievements at the Big East Conference Max had seven years of head coaching experience at the Fashion Institute of Technology where he amassed a 100-42 record. In 2011, he led the Tigers to a 2011 NJCAA Region XV Championship, earning them a selection to the National Championships in Rochester, Minnesota. He was awarded NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year (District F). Two years prior he received the NJCAA Region XV Coach of the Year award.
In his coaching debut in 1994, Max led his former high school, St. Mary’s College to a championship title at the Inter-Secondary School Volleyball Championships. His championship team comprised players such as Jason Octave, an outstanding middle hitter who went on to compete on athletic scholarship for the Queens College Knights’ men’s volleyball team (2002-2005) and moved on to play professionally in leagues in Germany and Puerto Rico. Max joined the Saint Lucia Women’s National Team coaching staff as Assistant Coach in 1997.
Max has served as director and volleyball instructor at multiple successful clinics and related programs in the New York metro area and in his country of St. Lucia.
Our Founder earned two degrees while at Queens College – a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Social Science. Max is also a USA Volleyball CAP I certified Coach.
